Genshin Impact, one of the most popular mobile games globally, has established a strong relationship with Apple. The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, even made a personal visit to the gaming company miHoYo’s headquarters in China. Furthermore, two of miHoYo’s games were showcased during Apple’s September 12 presentation for the latest iPhone 15 lineup. The partnership between these two tech giants is so solid that even attempted cheating couldn’t damage their friendship.

According to a report, miHoYo, the developer behind Genshin Impact, tried to circumvent Apple’s 30% cut on in-app purchases. This sneaky maneuver was attempted not once, but twice, showcasing the determination of the Chinese gaming company. Undeterred by their first failed attempt, miHoYo instructed their customer service staff to guide users to make in-game purchases through their website, bypassing Apple’s cut. However, this tactic led to their forum app being removed from the App Store.

Undeterred by their previous setback, miHoYo made another effort to evade Apple’s fees by introducing a new payment method in Alipay. Similar to their previous attempt, this method was quietly introduced without much fanfare. Nevertheless, Apple promptly disabled the feature for iPhone users, putting an end to miHoYo’s second attempt.

Despite these minor cheating attempts, Genshin Impact has received accolades from Apple. The game was awarded the title of iPhone Game of the Year in 2020 and won the Best Visuals & Graphics in Games category in the Apple Design Awards the following year. Apple praised the game for its stunning visuals and immersive gameplay, pushing the boundaries of mobile gaming.

Perhaps miHoYo will make a third attempt to avoid Apple’s fees in hopes of securing another award. It seems that their relationship with Apple is strong enough to withstand such endeavors.
