Full Story

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have brought some exciting additions for those who usually opt for the non-Pro models. One notable inclusion is the Dynamic Island, a feature that has divided users. Additionally, the 48MP image sensor used in last year’s iPhone 14 Pro models is now part of the 2023 non-Pro models, enhancing their camera capabilities. However, it’s important to note that there are still exclusive features in the more expensive Pro models.

Among these features is the Tetraprism periscope lens, which provides 5x optical zoom exclusively for the iPhone 15 Pro Max users. However, it is expected that the iPhone 16 Pro will include this feature next year. Another feature limited to Pro models until now is the 120Hz ProMotion screen, offering a smoother refresh rate for enhanced user experience. But according to Ross Young, a reliable source, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus in 2025 will be the first non-Pro models to feature this 120Hz refresh rate.

Young’s roadmap reveals some interesting details for the upcoming iPhone models. The iPhone 16 is anticipated to have a 6.12-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Plus will sport a 6.69-inch screen. Both will maintain the 19.5:9 aspect ratio seen in this year’s non-Pro models. Looking ahead to 2025, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus are expected to feature screen sizes of 6.27 inches and 6.86 inches respectively. These models will also introduce a shift from Low-Temperature PolySilicon (LTPS) displays to low-temperature Polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) screens, primarily to accommodate the ProMotion feature and achieve the 120Hz refresh rate. This change will contribute to a longer battery life.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will retain a similar screen size and aspect ratio compared to the 2023 models. However, in 2025, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will introduce new changes. The Dynamic Island feature will be replaced with an under-display Face ID and a punch hole cutout for FaceTime and selfies. Unfortunately, this means that enthusiasts of the Dynamic Island may be disappointed, as it is expected to be absent from the 2025 Pro models, but will still be available on the non-Pro models of that year.
