Samsung‘s upcoming flagship series, the Galaxy S24, is set to have an earlier release date compared to its predecessor. The Galaxy Unpacked event for the phones is expected to take place in January 2024 in San Francisco. Traditionally, the Galaxy S line is unveiled in San Francisco while the foldable Galaxy Z events occur in New York. However, last year, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 in Seoul. Therefore, it is likely that the Galaxy S24 line will be unveiled in San Francisco earlier than usual in January, with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 returning to New York City.

One of the significant improvements in the Galaxy S24 series is the introduction of the Exynos 2400 SoC, which will power select models in certain markets. This chipset, featuring a deca-core design, has the potential to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, assuming Samsung has resolved past heat-related issues. Benchmark tests seem to support this theory, suggesting that the Exynos 2400 could give the Snapdragon a run for its money.

In terms of design, the Galaxy S24 Ultra might come with a titanium frame, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models. This change could make the device lighter. Additionally, there might be upgrades to the screen resolutions. The Galaxy S24+ is rumored to feature a QHD+ AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1440p, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 is expected to retain its FHD+ resolution of 1080p.

Camera-wise, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ might feature a rear camera array consisting of a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The front-facing camera is speculated to be 12MP. Meanwhile, the S24 Ultra is anticipated to have a 200MP sensor for its primary camera, along with a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, and a 12MP selfie camera. Additionally, the top-of-the-line model will come with the S Pen.

Battery capacities are also expected to see improvements, with a 4000mAh cell for the Galaxy S24, a 4900mAh battery for the S24+, and a 5000mAh battery for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Fast charging capabilities will likely be available, with 45W for the S24+ and S24 Ultra, and 25W for the S24. All three models are expected to support 15W fast wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

An interesting addition to the Galaxy S24 line is the potential inclusion of two-way satellite communication, allowing users to make emergency calls when no cellular network is available. This feature is currently found in the iPhone 14 and 15 series, as well as Huawei’s P60 Pro.

Lastly, the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra will come pre-installed with One UI 6.1 and run on Android 14. These devices are also expected to receive four major Android OS updates throughout their lifecycle, ensuring users stay up to date with the latest software advancements.
