Full Story

The latest update for iPhone users, iOS 17.1.2, is on its way, with evidence of the update spotted in MacRumors’ website analytics logs. Some of the high-profile bugs that still need to be fixed include issues with wireless charging using General Motors’ in-car charging pad for iPhone users running iOS 17.1 and later. Apple has been working to eliminate these bugs, with the most recent iOS 17.1.1 update fixing a bug that broke NFC on iPhone 15 series handsets using BMW’s in-vehicle charging system.

This issue prevented affected users from using Apple Pay and some received error messages stating that Apple Pay could not be set up on their devices, even if they had used the feature before. Apple-certified techs were instructed to use specific software or open up the devices to repair or replace hardware on some units. Despite BMW’s warning to avoid using the in-vehicle charger on new vehicles, Apple pushed out the iOS 17.1.1 update at the beginning of this month to address the issue.

The iOS 17.1.2 update is expected to be released next week, as Apple typically stays away from releasing new software builds during the week of Thanksgiving in the U.S. This update will likely address the GM wireless charging bug and other issues currently affecting iPhone users. Looking ahead, iOS 17.2 is also in the works, with beta builds already being pushed out. The final version is expected to arrive in the middle of next month, adding support for spatial video recording for iPhone 15 Pro models and introducing new features like the Journal, Clock, and Weather widgets. These updates will provide iPhone users with exciting new features and improvements to enhance their overall experience.
