The buzz around the Galaxy S24’s launch date is growing, and so are the leaks about the phone. Recently, a rumor was floating around that the Galaxy S24 Ultra might hold onto its predecessor’s 10x periscope camera. But another rumor, from a more reliable source, pretty much squashed that idea.
Now, there’s more concrete evidence that suggests the phone will indeed say goodbye to the 10x zoom camera. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, with its 200MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide shooter, a 10MP 3x telephoto camera, and a 10MP 10x periscope unit, was one of the top camera phones of 2023. The 10MP 10x module was a standout feature, giving the phone a zooming range that other handsets just couldn’t match.
In September, word got out that the Galaxy S24 Ultra might lose the 10MP 10x camera. The rumor mill suggested it would be replaced by a 50MP camera with 5x optical zoom.
An image that seems to have been taken at a factory shows the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera array. The leaker, @chunvn8888, posted this image. If the leak is legit, the image clearly shows that the Galaxy S24 Ultra doesn’t have a 10MP 10x periscope camera.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera array, on the other hand, does have a 10x periscope camera. Sure, some folks will be bummed to see the 10x camera go, but this might actually be a smart move.
With the 50MP camera’s higher resolution, it’ll capture more details. And, the term “quad telephoto camera” implies that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will likely use sensor crop and digital zoom to achieve a zooming range of 10x.
The phone is rumored to have a 6.8-inch screen, a titanium design, a 5,000mAh battery, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. So, there’s that.
