Full Story

According to MacRumors, analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities has some predictions. He’s expecting better multitasking on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus this year.

Why? Well, he believes Apple will equip both 2024 non-Pro models with 8GB of RAM. That’s a step up from the 6GB of RAM in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

But that’s not all. Pu also anticipates that Apple will maintain 8GB of RAM on the Pro variants. So, if he’s right, all four iPhone 16 models will rock 8GB of RAM this year.

Now, if you’re not familiar with RAM, it stands for Random Access Memory. It’s a temporary memory that gets wiped when we switch off our phones. Your frequently used apps and app data? They’re stored in RAM. Hence, the more RAM on your phone, the better it multitasks.

But hold on a second. Don’t start comparing 8GB of RAM in iOS with the whopping 24GB of RAM in some new high-end Android phones. The two platforms function differently, making such comparisons a bit like comparing apples with oranges (pun intended).

Switching gears a bit, let’s talk cameras. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to get the Tetraprism periscope telephoto camera this year.

Additionally, Pu expects the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro to upgrade from Wi-Fi 6 to Wi-Fi 6E. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max already support the latter. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are also expected to get a Wi-Fi upgrade, from 6E to the new Wi-Fi 7. This new version is about five times faster and offers double the throughput, allowing for more signals to be sent and received without interference.

There’s more. The non-Pro iPhone 16 models will get the Action Button this year. This feature lets users press a button to trigger a selected action, like turning on the flashlight or opening the camera app.

All four iPhone 16 models will come with the new Capture Button. Reportedly, this button will be used to start recording videos.

In terms of screen size, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will stick with the current 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes. Rumor has it that the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max will have screen sizes of 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch respectively.

The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to join the iPhone 16 Pro Max in featuring the Tetraprism periscope camera this year. This camera first debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year.

All four 2024 phones will feature an A18 chipset. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be powered by the A18 Bionic, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be powered by the more capable A18 Pro SoC.

Both application processors will be made by TSMC using its 3nm process node. And guess what? We’re just about eight months away from the unveiling of the iPhone 16 line. Time flies, doesn’t it?
