Imagine being able to leave your physical wallet at home and carry all your essential documents in one place – your phone. Well, that’s exactly what Samsung has announced they will be offering. Following Apple‘s lead, Samsung is introducing mobile driver’s licenses and state IDs to their digital wallet, Samsung Wallet. Android Authority reports that the feature will be initially available to residents of Iowa and Arizona, with more states to follow in the future.
Partnering with IDEMIA, a leader in security solutions, Samsung aims to ensure that the mobile driver’s licenses are safe, accurate, and private. While no specific release date has been announced yet, the feature is expected to be rolled out later this year. In addition to this, Samsung is also collaborating with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for a test program, aiming to accept mobile driver’s licenses at 25 federalized airports.
It’s important to note that the functionality of a mobile driver’s license will depend on the regulations and laws of each individual state. As this technology is still relatively new, there is great potential for it to transform how we carry and present our identification in the future. As more information becomes available, we’ll be sure to update you. So, stay tuned for the latest developments on this exciting feature from Samsung.
