Full Story

Just a week ago, Samsung pulled the curtain back on their latest Galaxy S24 series. Now, it’s up for grabs if you’re keen to pre-order.

But hey, the new AI features on these flagship devices weren’t the only thing that had us all talking. The Korean tech giant had another trick up their sleeve. As the Unpacked event was wrapping up, they dropped a teaser for their first smart ring – the Galaxy Ring.

Didn’t catch much about it? You’re not alone. Samsung only showed off a vibrant reel featuring a ring with a few visible sensors on the inside. Not much to go on, right?

Well, we’ve got some good news. Recent reports are starting to shed some light. Analyst Avi Greengart claims to have had a hands-on experience with the Galaxy Ring during Samsung’s Unpacked 2024 event, as reported by The Verge.

According to Greengart, this ring is “ridiculously light”. It comes in three finishes and up to 13 sizes. Not bad, huh? Samsung is expected to launch it later this year, although they’re keeping mum on a more precise timeframe.

There’s some chatter that a possible unveiling might happen at the Unpacked event in the second half of this year. Details are still a bit thin on the ground, but it’s anticipated that the Galaxy Ring will include features like heart rate/SpO2 monitoring, sleep tracking, and workout tracking.

And guess what? It’s likely to sync data with Samsung Health. Samsung might position the Galaxy Ring as an accessory for the Galaxy Watch, providing more advanced and accurate health tracking. Or, it could follow the model of the recently unveiled Amazfit’s Helio Ring: a smart ring that can function as a standalone tracker or pair with existing smartwatches.

2024 is shaping up to be the year of the smart rings. Not only did Amazfit introduce its own Helio Ring during CES 2024, but the Finish company, Oura, a leader in this still niche wearable market, is gearing up to launch the fourth generation of its smart rings.

With Samsung set to introduce the Galaxy Ring later this year, it wouldn’t be surprising if other major tech companies also join the smart ring trend. So, keep your eyes peeled!
