Samsung recently unveiled its latest FE series, which includes the Galaxy S23 FE, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and S9 FE+, and the Galaxy Buds FE. These devices offer a more affordable option compared to the flagship models. However, for those still looking for a more budget-friendly option, Samsung has quietly launched the new Galaxy Tab A9 and Tab A9+ on Amazon in India.
Initially, there were rumors of an October 5 release date, but the tablets unexpectedly appeared over the weekend. Although the global release details remain uncertain, sightings in Guatemala suggest a wider launch is imminent.
Both the Galaxy Tab A9 and Tab A9+ come in three color options: Dark Blue, Grey, and Silver. The Tab A9 features an 8.7-inch LCD with a resolution of 1,340 x 800 and a 60Hz refresh rate. It has an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. On the other hand, the Tab A9+ boasts a larger 11-inch LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1920 x 1200. It has an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The design of both tablets is similar to the previous Galaxy Tab A8, with slightly smaller bezels as the main difference.
The Galaxy Tab A9 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. In contrast, the Tab A9+ is equipped with a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon SM6375 processor, 8GB of RAM, and expandable 128GB storage. Both tablets come with Android, likely version 13, out of the box.
Interestingly, both tablets are listed with a 5,100mAh battery, which seems like a strange decision considering previous rumors suggested a larger battery for the Tab A9+. There are also uncertainties regarding the presence of an S Pen and the support for physical SIM and eSIM. The pricing details for both tablets are uncertain as well, with the Wi-Fi-only Tab A9 starting at ₹14,999 ($180) and the Tab A9+ starting at ₹20,999 ($252).
The availability of the Galaxy Tab A9 and Tab A9+ in the US and Europe is still unclear, but updates are expected in the future.
