Samsung’s got a plan. It’s bringing back its rugged tablet series. The question is, when? We’re all in the dark about the exact timing.
There’s been a leak. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5, the next in line for the rugged tablet series, has been spotted. It’s not quite the same as the last model though.
MSPowerUser managed to get their hands on some renders of the Galaxy Tab Active5. The first thing that jumps out? The physical buttons. They’ve moved. Instead of lounging along the longer side of the slate, they’re now hanging out on the shorter side.
This design tweak is a game-changer for portrait mode users. Well, at least for those who are heavy on the physical buttons. The Galaxy Tab Active4 was a bit of an oddball with its button placement. But this new model? It’s bringing the series back to the standard design playbook.
We’re not just talking about the design here. We’ve got some intel on the specs too. As expected, this rugged tablet is tough. It’s got IP68 and MIL-STD-810H certifications. The specs list also mentions a 1.2mm anti-shock protective cover and Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The S Pen that comes with it is also IP68 rated.
What’s under the hood? The Galaxy Tab Active5 is powered by an Exynos 1380 processor. It comes in two memory options: 4/64GB or 6/128GB (expandable up to 1TB via microSD). For the shutterbugs, there’s a 13-megapixel main sensor at the back and a 5-megapixel selfie camera at the front.
What else is cool about this tablet? It’s got an 8-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It supports Dolby Atmos, has GPS, Type-C USB 3.2, and a POGO pin.
Let’s talk battery. The Galaxy Tab Active5 comes with a 5,050 mAh battery. It’s rumored to offer up to 16 hours of video playback, 15 hours of internet usage, or 33 hours of 4G LTE talk time.
