Full Story

So, Apple kicked off the pre-orders for the Vision Pro spatial computer on Friday. Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple analyst from TF International who’s known for his accurate predictions, had estimated that only about 60,000 to 80,000 units were up for grabs. But, interestingly, they didn’t all get snapped up on the first day.

The $3,499 256GB model, the $3,699 512GB one, and the $3,899 Vision Pro with a whopping 1TB of storage are all on back-order. Shipments are expected to roll out from March 4 through March 11. But if you’re thinking of grabbing the device from your local Apple Store, you might be in luck.

Some stores still have the 512GB Vision Pro and the 1TB Vision Pro in stock. Take the Burlington, Mass. store near me, for instance – they only have the 1TB model left. You can check out the stock at your nearest Apple Store by going through the pre-order process on the Vision Pro page. Just remember, don’t actually make the purchase if you’re just snooping around.

Now, if you’re getting the device shipped to you, getting your face scanned for a custom fit is a piece of cake. Just follow the instructions, and with the camera app on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll just need to look up, right, left, and down. If you wear glasses or contacts, you can also order prescription inserts from ZEISS.

The day after the launch, the 512GB and 1TB models of the Apple Vision Pro were still available at both of my local Apple stores. The official release date of the Vision Pro is February 2nd. If you check if your local Apple Store has the 512GB or the 1TB variants in stock, they’ll give you a day to come in, get fitted for the headset in person, and pick up the device.
